Question: is it possible to do Quickbooks via the iPhone?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Answer to question: is there a way to do quickbooks on the iPhone?

In and of itself? No. There is no Quickbooks stand-alone application for the iPhone. There are some crude alternate bookkeeping applications for the iPhone. But, nothing has impressed me.

As “powerful” as the iPhone is compared to some other smart phones, it pales compared to a desktop computer on multiple levels. And, without that power, it would be a poor place to put bookkeeping software. Today. Maybe that will change some day. Just my opinion.

But to answer a related question: is it possible to see Quickbooks via the iPhone?

Yes!

Or, to put it differently, there are ways to use the iPhone as a advanced interface to see Quickbooks running on Intuit’s online system.

So, the program running on the iPhone is not running Quickbooks internally.

For details about Quicken’s online system, visit http://quickbooksonline.intuit.com/ If only one employee is involved and limited usage, only $9.95/month. Otherwise, $34.95/month.

If converting from a PC or Mac version of Quickbooks to the online system, the $34.95/month is the level needed.

The iPhone application itself is free. Please keep in mind that the iPhone application only gives you limited access. Ultimately, you will also need access Quickbooks via a full computer.
