Thanks for the heads up regarding Vista problems!

There are no updates for this software that I have found. And, they seem to be pulling the expansion packs off the market. So, I suspect it's an abandoned product.

Given that Mattel is a legacy toy company, I suspect they don't understand the software industry. They are perhaps making a common mistake: software is _never_ "build and forget" like, for example, a physical toy. Plan on version 2. Keep on top of things. Sigh.

I personally have been very disappointed with the Fisher-Price Computer Cool School. Purchased for my son as it looked great on TV I installed with ease on a Vista Ultimate (with all service packs). All going well so far. Rebooted the machine and then went into the program and had a drumming sound that was louder than the voice. Under the Parental Controls the background music was switched to off. When we went into the Reading & Wrtiting Section the drum noise was so loud that we could not hear anything else. I then unplugged the hardward and still had the noise in the program. Placed the software on another laptop (again with Vista) and had exactly the same result. Suspecting that there might be a software issue I contacted the phone number in the booklet provided (Australia 1300 135 312) to ask if this was a known issue or if there was a workaround, thinking that it would just be a matter of downloading a simple program patch to correct the issue. The response back was not great the staff member stated that she had not heard of any issues as they had no information on any issues on the product. When I asked if they could check their database to see if any issue was registered I was told they basically had no information and that there were only two of them in the Customer Relations dealing with issues. Personally I have gone from being really excited to try this product to be really unsatisfied and disappointed that this product did not perform as represented on Television. I have purchased many Mattel (Fisher - Price) toys for my own children and as gifts in the past and have never had a problem with Mattel. I do not work in the toy industry or have any reason to dislike Mattel or their products. However given the lack of customer service when I called their Customer Relations Centre, where clearly their staff are under a lot of pressure and poorly resourced, I will think twice about purchasing a software related product from this company in the future. The above is my own personal opinion based on my personal experience.

Thanks, mom! this is very helpful. I really want to buy this keyboard for my hyper, inquisitive, 2 year old daughter. It's not available here in the Philippines and I am looking for ways on how to get one from Amazon or anywhere. haha.

Expansion? are those in CDs? how much are they? so, what's really included in the package? thanks!

Yep! I did catch the camera vehicle traveling on Paris Rd. Since it was a bright sunny day... I'm hoping I'm gonna be a StreetView Star! Time to get your Geo-Biographies updated with pictures!

To followup on this a bit. The emphasis appears to be on the unused space around/on the television channels. Still, it's a "look before leaping" technology. The new wifi devices would not look at licensing, geography, etc. They will simply sniffs for usage for each particular frequency; if it appears nobody is using it; it uses it.

To follow up on this. Jamie from Mythbusters later stated that he got the details of the story wrong and there was no gag order.
